Garam masala, an Indian spice mix you can buy almost everywhere. You can also make your own mix, if you run out of garam masala but you still have all the spices separately in your cupboard. Or maybe you live abroad and you can't find the mixture in the supermarket. This spice mix doesn't have a fixed recipe, it can often vary which spices are being used.

  • 6 cardamom pods
  • 2 teaspoons coriander seeds
  • 1,5 tablespoons cloves
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 4 teaspoons cumin seeds
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

You can buy all the spices already ground, then you just have to combine them all together. If you use cardamom pods, you need to remove the pods and grind the seeds with a mortar. You can also easily grind cloves and black peppercorns with a mortar. Cinnamon sticks are slightly harder to grind, but it's possible. You can grind the coriander and cumin seeds, but you can also leave them as they are.
