Grease the loaf tin with butter and dust with a thin layer of flour. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius.
Mix the flour with the baking powder, or use self-raising flour. Add the brown sugar, a pinch of salt and the speculaaskruiden spices.
It is best to use a stand mixer to achieve a smooth cake batter. To do this, gradually add the milk to the flour mixture, then add a tablespoon of apple syrup. Once the batter is smooth, tip it into the greased cake tin.
Bake the gingerbread for 20-25 minutes. The exact time depends on your oven. You can use a wooden skewer to check if it is done, if the skewer comes out clean, the gingerbread is ready. Let it cool in the tin for around 10 minutes, then remove it from the tin.
Place the gingerbread in a plastic bag and leave it to cool completely to room temperature. Enjoy!
How long can I store gingerbread?
You can store homemade gingerbread for around 3 days.
Is gingerbread healthy?
Gingerbread is not particularly healthy, because it contains sugar. Gingerbread is a lot healthier if you replace the sugar with honey, but this significantly alters the flavour of the cake.
