Ingredients for a ham and cheese toastie
- 4 slices of fresh bread (white or brown, whichever you prefer)
- 1 medium-sized egg
- 2 tablespoons of flour
- 100 ml full fat milk
- 2 slices of cheese
- 2 slices of ham
- Some butter for baking
Kitchen equipment needed
- Chefs knife
- Cutting board
- Medium-sized skillet
Preparing the ham and cheese toastie — 5 minutes
Grab a bowl and add in the egg, flour and milk and whisk together until the substance becomes smooth. Grab two slices of bread, which can be white or brown bread. We choose for brown bread, because we prefer it over white bread. Cut one slice of cheese in two halves and divide over two slices of bread. Add the ham in the middle and put the two slices of bread (with cheese) together. This way the ham gets covered by lot’s of cheese.
Dip the bread with ham and cheese in the egg, flour and milk mixture on both sides. Do not completely immerse the bread otherwise the bread will get soggy and fall apart easily.
Finishing up — 5 minutes
Put a medium-sized skillet on high fire and add in the butter. Bake both sides until nice and crispy. Remove from pan and cut each ham and cheese toastie in two halves. Optional: you can let the cheese melt a bit longer by putting the ham and cheese toastie in the oven for 4 to 5 minutes on 200 degrees celsius or 392 degrees fahrenheit. Enjoy!
