Hasselback potatoes is a Swedish dish, its name originates from Hasselbacken. A restaurant based in Stockholm where this dish was first served. These baked seasoned potatoes turn out crisp on the outside and deliciously tender on the inside.
Preparing the hasselback potatoes — 5 minutes
PRE-HEAT the oven to 220 degrees celsius or 428 degrees fahrenheit. MELT the butter slowly in the small saucepan. Using the chef’s knife make lengthwise cuts in each potato, be sure not to slice all the way trough. A handy trick to prevent from slicing all the way trough is to place the potato on a spoon and then cut them. COAT the potato with the melted butter using a silicone brush. Repeat for the other 3 potatoes.
Baking the potatoes — 55 minutes
LINE your baking tray with non-stick grease-proof baking paper. Place the potatoes on the baking tray, season with pepper and salt. BAKE for about 30 minutes. REMOVE from the oven and coat again with the melted butter. RETURN to the oven for another 20 minutes depending on the type and size of the potatoes. You can check if the potatoes are well done by poking it with a fork. If it goes in easily, the potatoes are ready. If not, return to the oven and check again in about 5 minutes.
