Pizza dough isn’t hard to make from scratch! Follow these easy step-by-step instructions on how to make your own pizza dough. In this how-to article we will visually explain how to make your own pizza dough.
This how-to is kinda lengthy, but there are lot’s of pictures. In the end you’ll definitely notice the difference between home-made pizza dough and store-bought. So delicious!
Ingredients needed for pizza dough
- 1 sachet of dry yeast ( 7 grams )
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 200 gram of plain flour, we’ve used bread flour for extra crunchy crust
- 1 tablespoon of regular olive oil
- 100 ml of lukewarm water
Step one: gather all ingredients, pictured above
Add the yeast into a small bowl
Add sugar to the yeast
Add half of the lukewarm water to the yeast and sugar mixture
Mix the yeast, water and sugar until smooth. Wait for the yeast to proof for about 10 to 15 minutes. Which basically means you’ll have to wait until it looks like in the picture below:
You’ll notice that there is a tan-colored foam at the top. This is good, we’re in business! If you don’t get the above result, try again with fresh yeast.
Add the flour to the stand mixer bowl and make a small circle in the middle, add the salt to the circle.
We’ve used a Kitchenaid artisan mixer with the dough hook attachment, but of course you can knead by hand.
Add the yeast mixture to the bowl.
Gradually add extra water and olive oil to the flour
Use the medium setting on your standmixer and mix for about 10 to 15 minutes depending on how the dough reacts.
When the dough comes off the bowl easily, form it into a ball. Cover the bowl and set aside in a warm spot for an hour.
Add flour to your counter top and place the dough on top. Knead the dough ones more, using your hands.
Rub a bit of the flour on the dough, this will prevent it from sticking and use a rolling-pin to flatten the dough.
You now have a nice, flat pizza base made from your own pizza dough!
After that, you can choose anything you like as a topping, for example you can follow our recipe for a ham and peppers pizza.
Heat your oven to a temperature of 200 degrees celsius or 390 degrees fahrenheit. Put the oven plate with the pizza in the oven for about 10 to 15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and delicious! Be sure to check how the pizza is doing now and then.
