How To Spend The Perfect Weekend Exploring Street Food In London

For many people, spending a weekend in London sampling the city’s top food establishments is heaven. There are so many places to go and foods to try. But how should you organize your weekend? How should you spend your time?

Fortunately, the following post has an itinerary for you. It shows you how to spend the perfect weekend exploring London’s street food, so you can make the most of it and really enjoy yourself as you explore the city.

Friday Evening: Borough Market

Friday Evening: Borough Market

First, you’ll want to kick off your weekend at Borough Market. This location, on the south side of the Thames, is ideal for people who want to sample some of the best produce and stall-cooked meals on offer anywhere.

Start by arriving at one of the train stations and leaving your luggage with a service like Radical Storage. Then, make your way on the Tube or by bus to the south side of the river. Borough Market is close to The Shard, so you should find it if you head in that direction.

Once you are there, you’ll find all sorts of places to eat and enjoy food. For example, many people head to Kappacasein which is a stall that sells the ultimate cheesy potatoes. Many also go to Monty’s Deli which is a nice place to get a beef bagel and other classic foods traditionally served in the area.

Craft beers are, of course, available, at locations like The Rake. These aren’t made in London but usually come from breweries located in the rural counties of southeast England, many of which can trace their beer-making back centuries.

Saturday Morning: Bermondsey

Once Saturday morning arrives, you have even more options. For example, many foodies head to the Maltby Street Market in Bermondsey. Here, you can find all sorts of laid-back food that has more of a local character.

We suggest starting at the St. John Bakery. Here you can find custard tarts and bacon sandwiches but just make sure you arrive early so you beat the queues and can avoid missing out on the most popular items.

The Beefsteak Club is another option in this area. It’s always well-presented and offers all sorts of options for people who want plenty of calories before making their way around the city.

The Ropewalk is another location worth visiting. Many foodies consider this enclave a sort of haven, especially on a Saturday morning when it tends to be quite quiet.

Saturday Afternoon: Camden

For Saturday afternoon, you’ll want to head to Camden Market. This location is famous all over the world for its endless sprawling stalls and the sheer range of vendors who make a living here.

The most famous street food in this part of the city is Oli Babas halloumi fries. These are gooey, cheesy, and absolutely loaded to the max, giving the food an almost party-like vibe.

Then there’s Mama’s Jerk, which has a significant Caribbean influence (a common theme as you explore London’s street food scene). Here you can get spiced chicken wraps which are usually better than anything you can find in a sit-down café

Finally, for dessert, go to Waffle On. This vendor sells bubble waffles that have a party feel and keep you feeling fuller for longer than you usually think.

Saturday Evening: Shoreditch

For Saturday evening, it’s worth heading to Dinerama in Shoreditch. This location has everything including DJs and a bar.

Many people go here for Korean fried chicken, something of a specialty in London. Kimchi Cult is probably the best place to go, though there are other options.

If you’re in the mood for pizza, you could also take a trip to Fundi Pizza. This eatery is backed by real Italian skill, so you’re more likely to get food that tastes like it’s fresh from a real pizza oven.

Finally, you can find a nice cocktail bar in this area to sip for the night out.

Sunday Morning: Brixton

For Sunday morning, Brixton is the best place to head for brunch. At the market, you can wander the stalls for Caribbean roti or fishcakes.

Brixton is nice because it has a laid-back multicultural vibe. Vendors in this location sell all sorts of flavorful food from mid-morning onward.

Sunday Afternoon: Broadway Market

Finally on Sunday afternoon, head to the Broadway Market in Hackney. It’s compact but it always has plenty of vendors selling unique food.

The most interesting options are usually Ethiopian. These offer traditional Abyssinian cuisine, introducing you to something completely different from East African, drawing on the region’s rich food heritage.
