- 3 garlic cloves
- 150 gram diced ham
- 1,5 tablespoons nasi goreng spice mix (store-bought or make your own)
- optional: 1/2 red chili pepper
- ketjap manis to taste
- sunflower or other neutral oil
- pepper and salt to taste
- optional: serve with a fried egg and krupuk or cassava chips

Kitchen equipment needed
- cutting board & chef’s knife
- medium-sized pan
- colander
- wok
Preparation — 10 minutes
FILL a medium-sized pan with water and salt and bring to a boil.
PEEL and finely chop the onion and garlic cloves. REMOVE the seeds from the yellow and red bell pepper and chop into small pieces. RINSE the zucchini and chop into small cubes, the same size as the diced ham. If you’re using a red chili pepper, remove the seeds and finely chop the chili pepper. SLICE the spring onions into pieces.

Finishing the easy nasi goreng — 10 minutes
COOK the rice according to the package in the pan with water and salt.
HEAT a wok on high heat until it starts to smoke and then add some oil. SAUTE the chopped onion and garlic for about a minute and then ADD chopped peppers and zucchini. If you’re using a red chili pepper, you can add it now. ADD the diced ham, spring onions and nasi goreng spice mix. STIR well for a few minutes.
DRAIN the rice and add the rice to the wok. STIR well and then ADD the ketjap manis until the nasi has a beautiful color, that would be about 4 tablespoons ketjap. SEASON with pepper and salt and enjoy!
I’m not familiar with Indonesian cooking but your ham and rice dish looks delicious.
Thanks, it’s a very quick version of a traditional nasi :)
