53% of Americans consider themselves foodies, the New York Post reports. Food also plays a key role in helping people decide whether or not to attend events – 74% say they’d attend an event if they were certain the food was going to be good. Aside from cooking, there’s plenty of other fun and exciting ways to indulge your love of food outside of the kitchen.

Take a foodie vacation

A foodie vacation involves exploring the gastronomic scene of the destination you’re in. For example, you can spend time eating like a local, finding out about local ingredients and produce, and learning about the region’s unique culinary history. Participating in cooking demos or classes is also a great way to learn new skills, allowing you to enjoy your favorite foodie vacation dishes once you're back home.

Food-related gaming

Food-related video games are a must for gamers and foodies alike. Fruti Golf, for example, is a fun, multiplayer virtual reality game that involves playing a game of golf with fruit instead of golf balls. Up to four people can play in one game. Alternatively, you can even try your hand at food-related slot games. Indeed, fruit symbols like watermelons, oranges, and plums are a classic feature in numerous slot machine games.

This tradition dates back to the nationwide slot machine ban in the early 1900s; players started playing to win chewing gum instead of money. The different fruit symbols were used to represent the various flavors of gum up for grabs.

Grow your own fruit and veg

55% of American households grow their own gardens, with 67% of adults either growing or planning to grow vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Growing your own fruit and vegetables is an enjoyable and rewarding hobby that can help save money at the same time. If you’re a beginner, start with easy-to-grow crops, such as, green beans, radishes, cucumbers, lettuce, kale and peas.

Healthy soil is, above all, the key to a thriving garden, so be sure to check your soil pH first. Organic fertilizer like alfalfa or kelp meal can help improve the health and fertility of your soil.

Cooking and baking aren’t the only ways to indulge your love of food. By taking a foodie vacation, playing food-related games, and growing your own fruit and veg, you’ll discover plenty of other ways to experience the joys of food.
