Comments on Classic apple pie

Refreshing classic apple pie with a hint of lemon and vanilla. Made from scratch and a baking time of an hour, but it's really worth it. That smell, wow!

Gravatar van Denise It looks so delicious. I can't wait to the next days off to make this dish myself. I love cooking even though I am not good at it. Anyways, thank you for the recipe.

Gravatar van Lauren @ Mess Makes Food Hi, the pie is so amazing. You said that "Yield: 8 people" but when I finished my cooking, my 2 children ate the pie in just 5 minutes. They are so cute. Thanks for bring my children a great recipe.

Gravatar van Russell Some good ideas in this recipe which I tweaked a bit. I'd not used breadcrumbs on top of pastry before and that worked really well, and the lemon in the pastry was subtle but a nice touch. I thought that lemon and spice and vanilla were too many flavours and so I omitted the vanilla and used a mix spice (cinnamon, star anise and cardamom) instead of plain cinnamon. The apricot jam on the lattice work top also worked well. A really good recipe that is going to be cooked often (but impossible to prep in 30 minutes!)

Gravatar van Ohmydish Hi Russell, thanks so much! Just a hint of cinnamon and vanilla is common for a classic Dutch apple pie. But the extra star anise and cardamom also sounds delicious, those spices are right up my alley! The lemon juice is refreshing and helps prevent the apples' discolouration. So win win. Really? How much longer than 30 minutes did it take for you?
