If you use fresh peas, you need to shell them first. The easiest way to do this is to press the pod with your thumb and forefinger, which will open the pod, allowing you to remove the peas.
Fill a large pot with water and salt and bring to a boil.
Meanwhile, peel the red onion and garlic cloves and chop them finely. Remove the ends of the zucchini and cut it into small cubes.
Cook the pasta al dente in the boiling water. Add the peas halfway through the cooking time.
Meanwhile, heat a large frying pan over high heat and fry the bacon for a few minutes.
Add the zucchini cubes and cook them for about 5 minutes.
Briefly cook the onion and garlic until the onion is translucent, then add the cream and let it thicken over medium heat until reduced by about half.
Stir in 50 grams of finely grated Parmesan cheese and season the sauce with pepper and salt.
Add the al dente pasta and peas along with a small splash of the cooking water. The starch from the pasta water will make the sauce even creamier.
Season again with pepper and salt and serve with extra Parmesan cheese if desired. Enjoy your meal!
Can I use frozen peas as well?
Fresh peas are incredibly flavorful, but you can also use frozen peas. However, do not use peas from a jar or can, as they have a very different taste and texture.
Which cream to use for making pasta cream sauce?
You can basically use any type of cream you want, whether it's liquid whipping cream or cooking cream. The difference in taste mainly comes from the fat content of the cream.
