A blog friend posted a similar dish some time ago with something called brik pastry (not available locally) which can also be fried and I've been interested in trying to recreate it at some point. It's great to learn about this phyllo option. I'm sorry to hear that Veronique is allergic to fish. I didn't grow up eating a lot of it but I've grown to enjoy it over the years. How about seafood like lobster, crab, shrimp, mussels/clams etc.
