Grab a bowl and add in the egg, flour and milk and whisk together until the substance becomes smooth. Grab two slices of bread, which can be white or brown bread.
We choose brown bread because we prefer it over white bread. Cut one slice of cheese into two halves and divide over two slices of bread. Add the ham in the middle and put the two slices of bread (with cheese) together.
This way the ham gets covered by lots of cheese. Dip the bread with ham and cheese in the egg, flour and milk mixture on both sides. Do not completely immerse the bread otherwise the bread will get soggy and fall apart easily.
Put a medium-sized skillet on high fire and add in the butter. Bake both sides until nice and crispy. Remove from pan and cut each ham and cheese toastie in two halves.
Optional: you can let the cheese melt a bit longer by putting the ham and cheese toastie in the oven for 4 to 5 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius or 392 degrees Fahrenheit. Enjoy!
