Heat half a litre of milk in a medium saucepan. Add 4 tablespoons of sugar and dissolve it in the milk.
Sieve the cocoa powder into the hot milk and stir with a whisk until smooth. Cocoa powder often contains lumps, so it is always best to sieve it with a fine sieve.
You can add more sugar or cocoa powder to taste. Share between two large mugs and serve, if you like, with a dollop of whipped cream and/or mini marshmallows. Enjoy!
Which milk should I use to make hot chocolate?
For the creamiest hot chocolate you should use whole milk. You can also use semi-skimmed milk.
What kind of cocoa powder is best for hot chocolate?
Raw cocoa powder is the best kind of cocoa powder because it is not heated while the cocoa beans are being ground. This means that most of the nutrients remain in the cocoa powder. Dutch cocoa powder is heated while grinding the cocoa beans and has a slightly darker colour. Both types can be used to make chocolate milk.
