Buying any kind of spice mixes in the supermarket is very tempting at some times. But it's super easy and tastier to create your own! Especially when you already got a cabinet filled with all kinds of spices. And if you don't got them already, there are a lot of other kinds of recipes you can use all those spices for. For example a vegetarian bean stew or homemade piccalilli. Give it a shot, you'll discover a whole new world of flavor to amp up your dishes when you use a mix of herbs. Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons laos
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder (or 1.5 teaspoon ground chilis)
  • 1 teaspoon coriander / ketumbar
  • 1 teaspoon sereh / lemongrass
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin / djintan
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
How to make nasi goreng spice mix ingredients How to make nasi goreng spice mix ingredients You can buy all those spices in most supermarkets, or else it's worth a trip to an Asian supermarket. You can buy ground spices, or use a pestle and mortar to grind them yourself. Mostly to grind the cumin and coriander seeds. The best way to do this is by a grind and press movement at the same time. Grind until you end up with a smooth spice mix. How to make nasi goreng spice mix How to make nasi goreng spice mix Store the spice mix in an airtight jar, such as a preserving jar. This way you will always have a batch of nasi goreng spice mix within reach. Enjoy! We put up an easy nasi goreng using our spice mix, and you can also use this mix for our devil's stew recipe. Hope you like it!

I am definitely going to make this, but how much and when do I add it to the rice? A Nasi Goreng recipe using this spice mix would be wonderful! Thanks!

Are you sure that’s two table spoons of salt and not two teaspoons?
Ohmydish says on 2019-05-20
Hi Walter, you're absolutely right! It even suppose to be just 1 teaspoon, I'm sorry, something went wrong translating our recipe (we also have a Dutch site). Not sure what happened, going to fix it right away!

Will have to try this out. Just to confirm though, when you say chili do you mean ground chilis or chili powder, which is generally a blend of chili, cumin, onion and garlic powder?
Ohmydish says on 2020-08-25
Hi Timo, thank you! Chili powder, but if you have ground chilis instead that's fine too. But that's a bit spicier, so maybe use a little bit less. Have a great day!

Hi Veronique, Thank you for this recipe. Its exactly like the packages. They are getting really expensive e to buy now. Being from Dutch heritage, with my Canadian husband and father inlaw who love it. If my father was alive he would be impressed!!! Thanks a million for saving Nasi Goreng nights in Montreal!!!!

Hi Henriette, thank you so much for your lovely comment. That's so great to hear!! We don't live in the Netherlands anymore, so from time to time I like to try and make something that we can't buy here in France. Amazing to have saved your nasi nights, love it!! Have a great day, friendly greetings Véronique
