An anchovy caper pizza is a fresh pizza with a hint of lemon and is also known in Italy as a pizza napolitana. For a real pizza Napolitana, mozzarella is used.
You can spread a bit of the oil from the can or jar over the pizza before baking for more anchovy flavor. Don’t use too much oil, or the pizza will become too greasy and less tasty.

If desired, first make pizza dough so it has time to rise.
Peel the garlic clove and chop it finely or use a garlic press. Mix this with 100 ml passata and 1 tablespoon dried basil.
Season with black pepper. There’s no need to add salt since the anchovies and cheese are already salty.

Peel the red onion and slice it into thin half rings.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius and line a baking sheet with baking paper.
Dust the counter and rolling pin with flour and roll out the pizza dough.
Place the pizza base on the baking sheet, spread the tomato sauce over the base, leaving the edges free.
Sprinkle a handful of grated cheese over the tomato sauce and add the capers, red onion, and anchovy fillets on top.

Bake the anchovy caper pizza until golden brown in about 10 to 15 minutes; the exact baking time depends on the oven and the thickness of the pizza.
Finish the pizza with the zest of half a lemon, enjoy your meal!
Can I leave out the lemon?
If you don’t like lemon, you can skip it entirely.
