You can use different types of grated cheese for this broccoli casserole. I used a mix of cheddar and Emmental. For a milder flavor, you can skip the curry completely and maybe replace it with a pinch of nutmeg.

An easy side dish with broccoli, cheese, and almond slices that goes perfectly with meat or fish. It’s also nice as a main dish in a larger portion, serve it for example with a salad.

Preparation - 10 minutes

Fill a medium pot with water and a pinch of salt and bring to a boil.

Break the broccoli into small florets and cook them until tender in the boiling water.

Drain the broccoli well in a colander while you make the cheese sauce.

Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius.

Making the broccoli casserole - 30 minutes

Heat 25 grams of butter in a small saucepan. Briefly fry 2 teaspoons of curry and add 25 grams of flour. Let this cook a little to remove the raw flour taste.

Gradually add 400 ml of milk while stirring with a whisk to prevent burning and lumps.

Let the sauce simmer for 2 minutes. Then add 125 grams of grated cheese and stir with a whisk until you have a smooth cheese sauce.

Season the sauce with pepper and salt.

Place the tender broccoli in a baking dish and pour the cheese sauce over it.

Top with a handful of grated cheese and almond slices. Bake the broccoli casserole until cooked and nicely golden brown for about 20 minutes. Enjoy!

What cheese should I use for making broccoli casserole?

You can use different types of grated cheese for making a casserole. I used a combination of cheddar and Emmental, but you could also use Gruyère or Gouda for example.

Can I reheat a casserole?

Yes, you can reheat a casserole in an oven or air fryer. Just cover it with aluminum foil first to prevent it from burning.
