Pasta with a super creamy sauce made with garlic, onion and cheese is an easy weeknight dish. This creamy garlic pasta is ready in no time and is best served with a salad.
A simple pasta with garlic cream sauce that’s ready in a jiffy, perfect for a busy day. It will be extra flavourful because of the use of lots of garlic and Parmesan cheese.
By adding a splash of the water the pasta was cooked in, the sauce becomes even creamier. That’s because of the starch that ends up in the water while cooking the pasta. So it’s always a good idea to add the pasta straight to the sauce with a bit of cooking water, instead of draining it in a colander or sieve.

Fill a big pot with water and a good pinch of salt and bring to a boil.
Peel and finely chop the onion and garlic cloves. Chop the parsley in as little pieces as possible.

Cook the pasta until al dente in the boiling water.
Meanwhile, heat a splash of olive oil in a large frying pan and cook the onion and garlic until the onion becomes translucent.
Pour in the cream and turn the heat down once the cream starts to boil. Let it simmer until the onion is completely soft.
Add the grated Parmesan cheese and season with black pepper and salt.
Add the cooked pasta with a bit of the cooking water. Let it all simmer for a few more minutes until the sauce has thickened.
Finish with fresh parsley and serve with a green salad if you like. Enjoy your meal!
What does al dente mean?
Al dente is Italian for "firm to the bite." This means the pasta is just not fully cooked, it still has a bit of a bite to it.
Can I make creamy garlic pasta ahead of time?
You can make the creamy garlic pasta ahead of time and reheat it in a pan later. You’ll probably need to add a splash of cream or water when reheating, so the sauce won't burn or dry out.
