Finely chop the iceberg lettuce and cut the tomatoes into small cubes. Grate the cheddar cheese and set the toppings aside.
Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Melt the butter in a small saucepan or microwave. Meanwhile, gradually add the milk to the flour mixture while kneading. You can knead this dough by hand or use an electric mixer.
Then add the melted butter and knead the dough well. Divide the dough into 6 equal parts and roll out each part into a circle, just like a tortilla. Then place them directly under a clean kitchen towel to prevent them from drying out.
Heat a good layer of sunflower or other neutral oil in a large pan. Carefully place the rolled-out dough in the oil and fry until golden brown on both sides. Fold the chalupa in half as soon as it is almost ready.
Then move it to a plate lined with paper towels to remove any excess oil. Repeat for the remaining dough and place the fried chalupas under a clean kitchen towel to keep them warm.
Heat a dash of oil in a skillet and cook the ground beef in a few minutes. Season with all the spices.
Divide the ground beef into the chalupas and finish with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar and garlic sauce or crème fraîche if you like. Serve immediately, enjoy!
