Drain the can of tuna and break apart the tuna pieces with your fingers or a fork. Place the tuna in a medium bowl. Peel and dice the red onion and, if desired, halve the garlic clove and chop finely.
Clean the celery stalk and cut the celery and gherkins into dice. Chop the fresh parsley as finely as possible. Add the red onion, celery and garlic to the medium bowl and add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.
Add the pickles/gherkins and parsley. Mix well with a silicone spatula.
Add the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard and mix the tuna salad well. Season with salt and pepper.
This classic tuna mayo salad can be kept covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Enjoy!
