This black pepper wok sauce is made with black pepper, garlic, soy sauce, and more. It adds a sharp, rich taste to your stir-fry. It’s an easy sauce you can make at home with ingredients you probably already have in your cupboard.

Don’t grind the black pepper too fine, slightly crushed peppercorns are perfect for this sauce. This sauce is inspired by the ready-made versions from the supermarket and the ones served at Chinese all-you-can-eat restaurants.

Making black pepper wok sauce – 10 minutes

Peel the garlic cloves and chop them finely, or use a garlic press.

Slightly crush 1 tablespoon of black peppercorns, you can do this with a mortar and pestle or the bottom of a pan.

Mix soy sauce, honey and rice vinegar with crushed black pepper.

In a small bowl or measuring cup, mix 100 ml of water with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch.

Cook the garlic for 1 minute in a dry saucepan. Add the soy sauce mixture and let it gently simmer for 2 minutes, until the garlic softens.

Add the cornstarch mixture and let the sauce thicken for a short time. You can now use the sauce in a stir-fry with beef, vegetables and udon noodles. Enjoy!
