A plum crumble is an ideal and easy dessert in the summer when the plums are at their best. Soft and sweet plums with a crunchy crumb layer, extra delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
You can use different types of plums to make a plum crumble, depending on what you can find. I used damson plums from the garden, but you can also use Reine Claude or Opal plums.
The soft and sweet plums go perfectly with the crunchy crumb layer with almonds, which you can also replace with hazelnuts or leave out completely. You can also substitute almond flour with regular flour for a nut-free version.

Wash the plums, cut them into pieces, and remove the pits.
Mix 1 tablespoon of flour and 2 tablespoons of sugar into the plums and spread them in a baking dish.

Chop the almonds finely and mix them with the soft butter, flour, almond flour, sugar, and a pinch of salt.
Rub with your hands until crumbs form and spread the crumbs over the plums.
Bake the plum crumble until cooked and nicely golden brown in about 20 minutes.
You can serve the plum crumble warm or lukewarm. Enjoy it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you like!
Can I replace the almonds?
You can replace the almonds with hazelnuts, or you can leave them out completely for a simpler crumb layer.
How long can I store a crumble?
You can store a crumble in the fridge for up to 2 days; it's best to reheat it before serving.
