Making Tomato Soup with Pasta - 30 minutes
Peel the red onion and garlic cloves and chop them as finely as possible.
Heat a splash of olive oil in a large pot and sauté the onion and garlic until the onion is translucent.
Add 2 sprigs of thyme and cook for another minute. Add passata and broth, then bring to a boil.

Lower the heat a bit (medium heat) and add the piombi (or other small pasta). Cook the piombi for about 10 to 15 minutes until done.
Remove the thyme sprigs and season with pepper and salt. Wrap a slice of raw ham around a breadstick and serve it with the soup. Enjoy!
Which pasta for soup?
For this tomato soup, we use piombi, an Italian pasta type, which are small, flavorful pasta balls. You can also use other small pasta types, like vermicelli or elbow macaroni. The exact cooking time can vary greatly depending on the type of pasta.
Can I reheat tomato soup with pasta?
You can reheat soup with pasta, but you may need to add extra water or broth. The starch in the pasta will cause the soup to thicken, and the pasta will expand as it absorbs the liquid from the soup.
