Preparation – 5 minutes

First we're going to create a lovely smooth mash to serve with the minced beef and leeks. You can follow our recipe here, or for a twist on regular mash you can follow our recipe with garlic here

Meanwhile rinse the leeks with cold running water and chop into large pieces.

Finishing the braised leeks with minced beef – 15 minutes

Heat butter in the large skillet and add the minced beef. Cook until it's beautifully browned and then add the cloves along with the pieces of leek. Place the lid on the skillet and let it cook for about 10 minutes, or until the leeks are softened enough.

My grandmother always used to cooked this dish until the leeks are very mushy, but we prefer the leeks to be a bit less mashed.

Season with pepper and salt, remove the cloves and serve with the mashed potatoes. Enjoy!

The leeks and beef remind me of a mapo tofu that I've made ... only the tofu is missing. :)

Do you mean garlic cloves?
Ohmydish says on 2021-01-13
Hi Jess, no cloves, as you can see in the ingredient photo. "Wikipedia: Cloves are the aromatic flower buds of a tree in the family Myrtaceae, Syzygium aromaticum. They are native to the Maluku Islands in Indonesia, and are commonly used as a spice. Cloves are available throughout the year owing to different harvest seasons in different countries." Have a great day!
