Preparation – 15 minutes

Peel the apples and cut into small dice. Chop the walnuts into coarse pieces. Add the apples to a large bowl and mix through a tablespoon of ground cinnamon.

Add the chopped walnuts, the juice of half a lemon, orange zest and the juice of 1 orange. Grease 4 small springform cake tins with butter.

Melt the butter in a saucepan. Cut the filo pastry into evenly sized squares. Brush the filo pastry with the melted butter using a silicone brush.

Place one sheet of filo on top of another, to make a star shape. Repeat this 3 times, then lay a pastry star in each of the springform tins. Fill each springform tin with the apple mixture.

Fold the package inwards and brush with some extra butter to prevent the mini apple pies from burning while baking.

Could I just use mini muffin pans?

Hello Cheryl, I think it's possible to make them smaller. Don't forget to reduce the oven time for smaller tartlets :)
